‘Nuttin’ but fun!’ draws smaller crowds

The four-day run of the 2013 Madera District Fair last week drew about 52,000 people to the fairgrounds. Attendance to “Nuttin’ but fun!” was slightly down from last year, said Tom Mitchell, the fair’s deputy manager.

The decreased turnout could probably be attributed to weather conditions, said Mitchell.

“I would guess it has to do more with the weather than anything, because Friday, Saturday and Sunday it was rather warm in the evening so most people didn’t come until later,” he said.

Traffic swarmed major surrounding streets and avenues after dark, calling for increased law enforcement patrol and traffic control coordination. Neighboring businesses cordoned off their parking lots and some hired security officers to enforce the ‘parking for customers only’ rule.
