The filing period for local candidates closed Friday afternoon at 5:00, but there was not exactly a last minute rush for a place on the ballot in the November 6 general election.
Most local offices didn’t draw enough candidates to make a race. No candidates for the Madera County Board of Education enticed any opposition. No candidates for Madera City Council drew an opponent, and only one candidate threw his hat in the ring for Mayor, who will be elected by the voters for the first time instead of being passed around among the council.
Likewise, candidates for the three open seats on the Madera Irrigation District are running unopposed.
