The California Air National Guard’s 144th Fighter Wing will dedicate the first of many of its F-15 Eagles to Madera, the hometown of the wing commander, Col. Clay Garrison.

The Friday event will begin the fighter wing’s “Cities of Honor” program, which will honor the many cities that support the Fresno Air National Guard Base members and the wing, officials said.

“We are a community-based organization; the Cities of Honor program forms a connection with the local communities that our airmen live and work in,” Garrison said. “It’s a way to thank the cities for all the support they give us.”

Mayor Robert Poythress, Madera City Council members Andrew Medellin, Donald Holley and Gary Svanda, and Mayor Pro Tem Derek Robinson will attend the dedication and then take a tour of the 144th Fighter Wing in Fresno, officials said.
