MSHS announces Homecoming royalty

Madera South High School announced its Homecoming grand marshal, educator Robert Chavez, and Senior Court on Friday.

Homecoming week activities began Friday with the Homecoming Dress Up Day Fashion Show. Special dress days are planned next week with Twin Day on Monday, Beauty and the Geek on Tuesday, Wham Color Wars on Wednesday, Zap Throwback Thursday and Superhero It Up on Friday.

The crowning of the Homecoming king and queen will take place Friday, which also includes a rally, parade, Spirit Walk, flash mob and a footbal game vs. Sanger High School. A Homecoming semi-formal dance is planned for 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at the East Gym, 705 W. Pecan Avenue. Dance tickets are $10 per single or $18 per couple, and include free photo booth access, dessert, soft drinks, games, and more.

Grand marshal

Chavez dedicated his life to education for more than 20 years, said Julie Larrivee, MSHS director of activities. His career has included being principal at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School and a tenure as the school district’s chief academic officer. He is also a member of the Rotary Club and a supporter of canned food drives, community clean ups, Coats for Kids and Toys for Tots...
