Two still sought in casino takeover

Two of 15 men charged with multiple felonies, including kidnapping and firearm assault, during an October takeover of Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino, are still on law enforcement’s radar after two more turned themselves in and posted $800,000 bail in previous weeks.

Shawn Steven Fernandez, 52, of Brentwood, turned himself in Nov. 22 and posted bond that same day, Madera County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Erica Stuart said, while Timothy Tofaute, 46, of Sparks, Nevada, gave himself up Dec. 1 and bailed out that day as well.

Both are scheduled for arraignment in Madera court on Dec. 22.

Fernandez and Tofaute are the 12th and 13th suspects — many of them private security officers — who turned themselves in to law enforcement following the Oct. 9 takeover that forced the casino’s closure a day later and spawned a litany of felony charges against the 15 suspects...
