Farmers are ‘bracing for the worst’
A devastatingly dry January will get minimal help in Madera tonight as a slight storm is expected to move in and drop, at best, a few hundredths-of-an-inch of rain.
The last time Madera and other Valley towns saw any rainfall was in the middle of December, National Weather Service meteorologist Jim Bagnall said, and though those showers were strong, improvements don’t look great with recent forecasts.
“It’s better than not getting anything, but there isn’t anything promising about this,” Bagnall said. “The fact that it’s anything at all is somewhat encouraging … but it won’t put much of a dent in the drought, at all.”
