Board moves on new school

Architects have been hired, property purchased, and a time line projected. It is full steam ahead for Madera Unified School District’s new elementary school.

An estimated 800 to 850 students will begin classes in 2017 within the new facility at Avenue 14 1/2 and Road 28.

The expected cost of the new school is $22 million, according to Rosalind Cox, director of facilities, planning, and construction management.

The new facility will sit on 19 acres, and tentative plans call for it to accommodate students in kindergarten through sixth grade. This could change, however, as there was some sentiment on the board for making it a K-8 school...
