A Coalinga man was treated at Madera Community Hospital after crashing his Harley Davidson motorcycle into the side of a train Monday near Avenue 12 in Madera, the California Highway Patrol reported.
About 2 p.m., Robert Semple, 67, was riding the 2005 Harley westbound on Avenue 12 when he approached the Santa Fe railroad tracks at an unknown speed. An Amtrak was going southbound about 70 mph on the tracks, the CHP said.
Semple failed to stop and lost control of the motorcycle before colliding into the side of the Amtrak train. Semple was moderately injured and taken to MCH for treatment, CHP officials said.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation, officials said.
