The First 5 Madera Family Resource Center (FRC) will hold a mixer at noon Friday to celebrate the contributions of AmeriCorps, a work experience civil service program, to the community of Madera.
The small celebration will take place at the Resource Center on 525 E. Yosemite Ave. It is free and open to the public. Appetizers will be available for those who attend and the FRC will show a video, “ AmeriCorps, The Experience.”
The public is encouraged to attend to know the opportunities available through the program and get to know alumni and existing members. Students from the Madera Community College Center will be there as well.
“We’re hoping to showcase [AmeriCorps] to as many people as possible and to give them an idea of what the program is about,” said Yosimi Santoyo, community engagement facilitator. “Not only are members giving back to the community, they are also getting hands-on experiences. For many of them, this is their first job straight out of high school.” ...
