In the Madera National Little League championship game, it was key hitting in the third and fourth innings that helped McDonald’s secure a spot in the City Championship game, set for Saturday.
Facing top-seeded Creamer Tile, No. 2 McDonald’s pulled out a 6-5 win Saturday to claim the MNLL championship at Lions Town and Country Park.
Trailing 2-0, McDonald’s scored four runs in the third inning and added two more in the fourth before holding off a late Creamer Tile rally to punch its ticket to Saturday’s title game against Madera American Little League champion Papa Murphy’s. That game will start at 7 p.m. on Mike Howe Field at Lions Town and Country Park.
“We had lost to them (Creamer Tile) twice during the season so it was really important for us to make sure that our kids understood that just because we lost those games it didn’t mean anything for this one,” McDonald’s manager Ray Hix said. “We just tried to get them in the right frame of mind and it paid off.” ...
