Final stage of SR 99 road work to begin

Ramp closures on State Route 99 will begin next week with as many as five nights affected. Construction crews will work behind a concrete K-rail work zone and/or in closed lanes, according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and Granite Construction Company.

The work is part of the Madera 99 Rehabilitation Design-Build Project, which Caltrans said may be completed by winter 2013, a year ahead of schedule.

Continuous extended ramp closures will be in place until Jan. 5, 2013, Caltrans said in a statement Friday. The closures include the SR 145 and 4th Street ramps. Other ramps within the project limits will close intermittently until the project ends. The closures are a safety precaution as the #2 lane and shoulders are reconstructed in both directions on SR 99.

The project will rehabilitate approximately 3.6 miles of identified sections along SR 99 by reconstructing concrete and asphalt concrete roadway, medians, and shoulders...
