An alleged would-be robber, a 31-year-old Fresno man, was shot and killed after he fired his gun at two business persons inside a pharmacy in the 500 block of East Almond Avenue, according to Madera police.
The robbery suspect, Aquilla Bailey of Fresno, didn’t say a word Tuesday when he reportedly walked in a back door about 6:30 p.m. and opened fire at the mother and son operators of the business with a .45 caliber handgun, according to witnesses. The owner drew his own weapon and fired back, striking Bailey at least three times and mortally wounding him.
The mother was struck once in the leg as the hail of bullets landed around them. She was in stable condition at a local hospital as of Wednesday afternoon. Detectives aren’t releasing the names of the victims or all of the details, pending the ongoing investigation.
People in the area described the incident as shocking and sounding like a ‘shoot out’, with the suspect shooting his way into back of the closed pharmacy and then at least five shots being fired back by the pharmacist and business owner...
