Annual Interfaith/ Intercultural Day celebration planned

The 17th annual Interfaith/Intercultural Day will be celebrated in Madera on Thursday to celebrate the diverse and numerous religious, ethnic and cultural traditions of the local community.

The free and public event, sponsored by the Madera Coalition for Community Justice, is educational, interactive and fun, according to organizers. Each year myriad booths featuring different groups display their respective cultural arts and handicrafts, traditional dress and food. Presenters will answer questions and provide information. Many ethnic groups furnish food samples to those in attendance.

The celebration has gotten bigger and better each succeeding year, organizers say. In the last five years, music and dance from some of the different ethnic groups have been showcased with the performers wearing native attire.

This year, Native-American singer-songwriter, flutist, and recording artist Lance Canales will perform, along with special music by several Native-American tribes. There will be a storytelling session at the beginning of the event for elementary school children...
