Local authors speak, self-promote

Fourteen authors shared more than their published stories in a free event aimed to celebrate their talent and allow residents the opportunity to meet them.

Local Author’s Day, sponsored by The Friends of the Madera County Library and the American Association of University Women, drew nearly 50 people to the Blanche Galloway Room at the library.

Authors displayed their books and gave autographs. Refreshments were provided and the AAUW distributed information about the local branch. Each author addressed the audience on Saturday. Some spoke about their books, others told of how they became authors and the writing process. A few read excerpts of their writing. The variety in genres included mystery, horror, children’s stories and poetry.

County Librarian Ellen Mester was pleased with the event. “It was a wonderful turnout,” she said...
