A highway drug bust in Madera County led to the discovery of a stolen military assault rifle at a Fresno home, according to authorities.
Suspects Gonzalo Manzo Jr., 27, and Arturo Reyes, 18, face a variety of drug, theft and weapon charges.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) stopped a vehicle Thursday on State Route 99, just south of Avenue 9, in Madera County. It allegedly contained 2 pounds of methamphetamine.
“It appears as though we intercepted a drug sale or stopped the vehicle after just having bought the drug,” said Madera Police Sgt. Matt Wiles in a statement. “After the stop, Madera Police Department and CHP conducted a search warrant in the 900 block of E. Commerce (Avenue) in Fresno. During the course of the search, an AK-74 assault rifle was located inside a pillow sham in one of the suspects bedroom.”...
