Maderans win 2nd in national FFA quiz competition

Recent graduate gets his second national title

The Madera South High School FFA team beat out squads from 32 states in a quiz competition and took second place overall in a national Future Farmers of America convention in Kentucky earlier this month, adviser John Williams said.

The team, comprised of Jasbir Singh, Clayton Sheehan, Rodolfo Rodriguez, Gabrielle Ortega, and Elizabeth Bautista, answered questions related to FFA history as part of the Best Informed Greenhand competition. All five, coached by teacher Kristin Sheehan, placed individually in the top-10 group of more than 150 students who took part in the contest, Williams said.

In a second contest, Meats Evaluation Judging, a four-member Madera team took sixth overall in the nation with one student in second place individually. Virat King, Matthew Flores, Eduardo Rodriguez, and Joalex Sanchez — the second-place individual finisher — were coached by Brent George on their knowledge of meat types and grades, Williams said.
