An email posing as a bank notifying online customers of a suspended account is a scam, Madera County Sheriff John Anderson said this week.
“If you receive an email with a warning, and request to open an attachment from what (at first glance) might appear to come from a reputable financial institution, do not open it,” he said.
One suspicious email reported Wednesday claimed to be from Bank of America, though the address was “bankofamerica@memberservice.com.”
Headlined “Unauthorized activity on your online account,” the letter advised the recipient that the account has been temporarily suspended after several failed attempts to provide answers to security questions. To clear up the matter, the sender instructs the recipient to open up an attachment titled, “Validation Form.” ...
