Local schools would be locked down for an hour Friday after students reported seeing two people in a passing car brandishing what may have been a gun, according to Madera Unified School District.
Five girls were walking in front of Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School shortly before 8 a.m., when a newer model, mid-size, four door, gray or silver car slowly passed by and occupants made threatening gestures, MUSD officials said.
Both driver and passenger were described as black and in their early 20s. The driver was wearing a cap, glasses and a black, white and red sweater.
“They never said anything to anyone. But the driver made a hand gesture, like holding a gun and pointing it, not at the students or the school, but toward the windshield,” said Louis Reyes, a Madera Police Department officer who serves as a resource officer for the district at MLK, Madera South High School and Millview and Cesar Chavez elementary schools...
